The Village Crier - Looking Back
2014 marks a milestone for Westmore News as we celebrate 50 years of covering the Villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook and the Town of Rye. On Thursday, Dec. 10, 1964, the first edition rolled off the presses. In this column I continue my look back over the past 50 years, having begun this reflection at the beginning of this year.

Fundraising drive begun in honor of Janet Heiser
In honor of Janet Heiser, the KTI Board of Trustees is proud to announce The Janet Heiser Lounge Fundraising Drive. Your generous donation will be earmarked for the restoration and rededication of the List Lounge and the adjoining Rose Margolis Garden and will enable us to replace the carpeting, paint, and purchase new furniture and wall art and install a flat screen television for KTI's most frequently used communal space.

Managers have the responsibility to be upfront with the people
Port Chester Village Manager Chris Steers claims the building inspector has a book with numbers that refer to nothing. Really, Mr. Steers? Does he expect the intelligent of people of Port Chester to believe that or that he or Building Inspector Peter Miley believes that? The residents are smarter than that and he and Mr. Miley are shrewder than that.

Two weeks to bark up a storm for P. C.
About two years ago I heard about this group of Port Chester residents who were starting a campaign to create a dog park in Port Chester.

Let 4th of July critic run next year's show
As if I did not already have enough on my plate with major development projects in the pipeline for Port Chester, responding to letters like Leo Goldner's ("Suggestions for improving July 4th program at PCHS," Westmore News, 7-11-2014), creates just another distraction that I could really do without. But some things just can't be ignored.

Homegrown participation of July 4th my favorite part of the evening
I am not sure that Leo Goldner, "Suggestions for improving July 4th program at PCHS," July 11, was at the same July 4th celebration I attended. The electricity and excitement in the air were evident from start to finish.

'Looking Back' column stirs up personal memory
In regard to Richard Abel's 'Looking Back' column, I would like to say that on June 4, 1991, my husband Frank and I were celebrating our 43rd wedding anniversary.

Paper should make distinction between news and opinion
I am writing in reference to the article in the July 14 edition of the Rye Brook Westmore News entitled "A half-million-dollar payout," with the subtitle: "Parent of former student says B. B. choral teacher deserves more than a $550,000 retirement incentive."

One terrific show at Crawford Mansion
It was a fun Friday night at the Crawford Mansion in Crawford Park, Rye Brook! The Port Chester Council for the Arts production of "Music...Music... Music," directed by Port Chester's own Cindy Moore and choreographed by Tracy O'Sullivan of Yonkers, was one terrific show driven by a very talented group of local performers and musicians.
