State Senator George Latimer files 4,000 Democratic petitions
Senator George Latimer has announced that his campaign has filed designating petitions with nearly 4,000 signatures from registered Democrats throughout the 37th District. The signatures obtained by Latimer and local Democratic volunteers are nearly four times the amount required to qualify for the ballot in the fall.

The Council of Community Services Senior Network Oral History Committee will unveil its first set of oral histories of local seniors on Tuesday, July 29, at 7 p. m.. SS flag flying in Port Chester gets residents' blood boiling
An SS flag flying high on a pole in the backyard of a house on the corner of Irving and Breckenridge Avenues in Port Chester this past Sunday raised the ire of some passersby, one of whom posted a photo on Facebook and others who contacted the Westmore News.

A near miss
An older driver hit the gas instead of the brake late Saturday afternoon, July 12, at the senior citizens' housing complex at 245 King St. and plowed through the fence surrounding the parking lot, nearly missing a car parked on the street.

This former Wendy's fast food restaurant on the Boston Post Road in Port Chester will be the new home of a Taco Bell. Work is underway to overhaul the building and transform it from a hamburger joint into a Mexican fast food eatery.

Village board appoints four new police officers
With the Port Chester Police Department down to 53 members when it had previously been up to 58, due to a rash of retirements, the Port Chester Board of Trustees has appointed four new police officers in the past week. All of them are from Port Chester and will come on board Aug. 4.
