Letter: Johnson should not be on BOCES board

February 28, 2019 at 9:05 a.m.

I read with interest the recent article regarding Mr. Johnson requiring the approval of the Port Chester Board of Education to be appointed to a three-year term on the BOCES Board.

I believe Port Chester deserves a more professional representation than what Mr. Johnson will give us. While he was on Port Chester’s Board of Education, if things did not go the way he wanted or he heard opinions that were not the same as his, he had no problem belittling that person. He was extremely rude and unprofessional during public comment, even to the point of cutting people off mid-sentence during their comment. When he was running for re-election in 2017, he was heard at the end of the League of Women’s Forum actually yelling at not only a board member but at the audience assembled for the debate. He needed to be calmed down by a board member. He is not the type of person Port Chester needs or should want representing them on the BOCES board.

To post accusations on Facebook without full knowledge as to why Mrs. Capeci was not able to attend the dinner showed total disrespect to a member of the BOE. Mr. Johnson never offered an apology to her. I have known Mrs. Capeci for about 50 years, and I believe she has done more for our children and the taxpayers of Port Chester than any member. She has always thought about not only the children and their education in Port Chester but what the taxpayers can afford.

A man who would treat a person who has been on the Board of Education for over 25 years that way does not deserve to represent our village on the BOCES board.
