Letter: Re-elect Zuckerman

I have been a volunteer with the Friends of Crawford Park for over 10 years. When I first joined the group, Crawford Park was minimally maintained, and Crawford Mansion was shabby. We started the “Music at the Mansion” benefit concert series in an attempt to raise sorely needed funds for park maintenance and to encourage people to visit the underused park. I recall that at the first concert in 2013, the heating system in the neglected mansion had been inoperative for months, and we had to set up buckets to prevent freeze-damaged pipes from wetting the crowd.
The transformation of the park and mansion under Gary Zuckerman’s administration has been stunning. Crawford Park is now a thriving community center and has a full-time groundskeeping and administrative staff. The park hosts many town-sponsored musical events, has a new running path, playground, renovated athletic fields, and a paved parking lot. The entire park is now accessible for the disabled. Crawford Park is now so popular that I sometimes need to search for a parking spot!
In my opinion, the revival of Crawford Park is just one example of the extreme competence of Gary and his amazing staff. I would like to encourage my fellow Town of Rye residents to re-elect Gary Zuckerman as Town Supervisor.
