Passover, also called Pesach, begins at sundown Mon., Apr. 21. It is a major Jewish holiday that celebrates the Biblical story of the Israelites' escape from slavery in Egypt. It is celebrated for eight days by Orthodox and Conservative Jews and seven days by Reform Jews and in Israel. It is marked by cleaning the house and removing leavened products before Passover begins; the seder, a traditional Passover meal where the story of the exodus is retold and symbolic foods are eaten, drinking four cups of wine and eating matzah. Happy Passover to our readers who celebrate this holiday.
