Il Coco Pazzo (The Crazy Rooster) is now open at 139 South Main St., serving up Italian and other European specialties in a good-sized storefront space with a bar across the street from the currently-stalled Auto Zone construction site.

Mayor Richard “Fritz” Falanka cut the ribbon to officially open the affordably-priced restaurant on Friday, Sept. 21, although a banner above the entrance said the grand opening was Thursday, Sept. 6.

Co-owners Elio Moretti and Anthony Lascano hail from Sicily. Moretti also owns a produce company at Hunt’s Point, so all the produce is very fresh.

“Everything is made from scratch every day,” said Moretti. “The sauce is from plum tomatoes, no cans.”

The small menu features main dishes like Chicken Pestate (pounded chicken breast “a la plancha” with shaved vegetable salad), Chicken Spiedini (two chicken skewers, fresh vegetables with sides of the day) and Arrosto (roasted) Chicken for $6, sides like salad and Al Forno Pasta (penne with tomatoes and basil) for $2-$3.

There are also 5-7 specials per day listed on a large blackboard on the wall, many of them pasta dishes.

The restaurant is open seven days from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
