    The Carver Center hired a past employee and Port Chester resident to become their new chief development officer on Sept. 6.

    John F. Kennedy School's principal is retiring at the end of the month, and stepping up to take his place is none other than his second-in-command. The Port Chester school board unanimously appointed Judy Diaz to take over for Lou Cuglietto on Wednesday, May 27.

    Congratulations to Zachary Taylor of Port Chester who received a B.A. in history at the 149th commencement of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine May 31. While at Bates, he played varsity football and competed on the alpine ski team. He will be attending Pace Law School in the fall.

    The League of Women Voters of Rye, Rye Brook & Port Chester has chosen Samuel "Sam" Zarkower, an 11th grader at Blind Brook High School, to receive its 2015 Student Civic Achievement Award.

    Manhattanville College has appointed Dr. Lisa M. Dolling as the College's new provost, vice president for academic affairs and professor of philosophy. A Manhattanville College alumna, she is currently dean, College of Arts and Letters, co-director, Stevens Center for Science Writing, and associate professor of philosophy at Stevens Institute of Technology. She will begin as provost July 1, succeeding Dr. Gail M. Simmons who has accepted a position at another university.

  • Local pediatrician pens medical thriller
    It's not too often that medical experts train themselves in a new discipline after 25 years, but local pediatrician Dr. Peter Acker has broken through by writing a suspenseful novel that combines the medical world with a literary flair. Dr. Acker has worked with Pediatric Associates in Rye Brook for nearly 28 years, but in the fall of 2014 he earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Manhattanville College.

in New York Geography Bee
    Blind Brook Middle School seventh-grader Abe Baker-Butler qualified to compete at the New York Geography Bee on the state level. After having won the Middle School Geography Bee in January, Abe took a qualifying written exam and was one of the top 100 scorers in the state who competed at the state championship in Albany on Mar. 27.

    The Port Chester Seniors took first place in the Westchester County Wii Bowling League Spring Tournament, defeating White Plains, Mt. Kisco, Rye Brook and the City of Rye Seniors.

She has been a standout on the court, on the diamond and in the classroom for the Valiant women's volleyball and softball teams.
