The 13th Annual
Tour de Foliage will take place Sun., Sept. 18 at the Brookside School in
Ossining to benefit the Dysautonomia Foundation. Rye Brook resident Rebecca Newman, 19, is one of just 325
patients worldwide with Familial Dysautonomia, a rare Ashkenazi Jewish genetic disorder
affecting the sensory and autonomic nervous system. All riders receive
breakfast and lunch, a Tour t-shirt, a goody bag and are entered to win

Hudson Valley Honor Flight
will fly its 1,000th veteran on its Sept. 10 flight to
Washington, D.C. to see the nation’s memorials honoring veterans. This flight,
dubbed Flight 1,000, will depart from Stewart International Airport in
Newburgh. The exact name of the person who is the 1,000th veteran
will be kept confidential to ensure that all veterans onboard are recognized equally
for their military contribution. Each veteran is accompanied by a volunteer, a personal
“guardian” who is responsible for ensuring that the veteran’s trip is a
memorable one. Guardians are responsible for covering the cost of their trip.
HVHF’s remaining flight will be Sat.,
Oct. 29 and will depart out of Westchester County Airport in White Plains.

ArtsWestchester has
received a $50,000 grant from Wells Fargo to support its Arts-in-Education
program. The grant will enable ArtsWestchester to bring more artists to
under-resourced schools.
The U.S. Postal Service
recently issued the new 1-cent definitive Apples stamp. The stamps are
available in coils of 3,000 and 10,000. The stamp design features two apples on
a branch surrounded by leaves. Also known as the Newtown pippin, the Albermarle
pippin apple has deep historical roots. It first appeared in the late 17th
century in an area of Queens formerly known as Newtown. Customers may purchase
the Apple stamps at usps.com/stamps and at post office locations.
The Port Chester-Rye Brook
Public Library offers free delivery services for homebound residents of the
two villages. Volunteers will deliver books and audiovisual materials to people
