The League of Women Voters of Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester honored three local high school award winners at their annual meeting held in June at the home of League board member Patricia Rinello of Rye Brook.

Dr. Richard Buzin, co-president of the League, presented the Student Civic Achievement Scholarship in the amount of $500 to Alejandra Chajon-Gonzales, a junior at Port Chester High School.

Also recognized were Juan Pujas of Rye Country Day School and Isabelle Schindler, a freshman at Rye High School, who were selected for the Students Inside Albany Awards. They received an all-expenses-paid trip to Albany where they sat in on legislative sessions and shadowed their legislators. Each of these awards is valued at $650 for the three-day conference.

Recipients are high school students who demonstrate civic engagement, advocacy for various causes and proven leadership in school or community organizations. These awards are presented annually through an application process that includes a resume, written essay and letter of recommendation.
