The 2023 FIT (Fitness Initiative Together) 5K walk will take place Sat., Apr. 22, 9-11 a.m. The walk begins and ends at Ridge Street School, 390 N. Ridge St., Rye Brook. Participants will walk around the Country Ridge area. Free. There will be an LED giveaway. A DEA National Rx Takeback event will take place Sat., Apr. 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Rye Brook Police Department, 938 King St. No needles or liquids will be accepted. There is a drug takeback box for disposing of unwanted drugs that is always available at this location.

The Sharing Shelf in Port Chester will pick up donations of clothing Sat., Apr. 22 in Rye Brook. Donate your clothing to address clothing insecurity and help families in Westchester. A Conversation with Fr. James Martin, SJ will take place Thurs., Apr. 27, 7:30-9 p.m. at KTI, 575 King St., Port Chester and via Zoom. Pastor Jim O’Hanlon, Rev. Dr. Martha Cruz and Rabbi Ben Goldberg will interview Fr. Martin via Zoom for his thoughts about prayer, interfaith relations and LGBT inclusion. The Village of Rye Brook in cooperation with Blind Brook Roots and Shoots Club will host a 2023 Arbor Day Ceremony, Fri., Apr. 28 at 11 a.m. in Harkness Park, adjacent to the Blind Brook Middle/High School campus, 840 King St. All are invited to a brief tree planting ceremony to celebrate Arbor Day in Rye Brook.

Camps & Summer Programs

Rye Brook Recreation has announced that signups are taking place now for Summer Day Camp for boys and girls entering K-6th grade and Teen Travel Camp for boys and girls entering 7th-10th grade. Camps run July 3-Aug 11, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The Early Bird 6-week discounted rate ends Apr. 30. Day Camp fees: $1,000 for 1st child ($1150 after Apr. 30). $800 each additional child ($900 after Apr. 30); Travel Camp fees: $1,800 each child ($1,900 after Apr. 30). Clay Art Center, 40 Beech St., Port Chester will offer weekly themed half & full day Summer Camps for children & teens ages 7-15 June 26-Aug. 18. Campers will be shown a variety of techniques on and off the wheel. Camps for ages 7-11 will focus on handbuilding and sculpture; camps for ages 12-15 will focus on wheel throwing and handbuilding. Sample camps include Wheel and Beyond, Surface Design Time, Candy Crush, Amazing Animals, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Ancient Architects and many more. In the classroom, aspiring young artists will develop their imagination and build confidence while working in the transformational medium of clay. Morning camp (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) and Afternoon camp (1-4 p.m.) are $310/week; Full-day camp (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) is $515/week. Early bird drop-off options are available. Registration is open online.
