The U.S. Government recently launched the Welcome Corps, a program to help Americans sponsor and resettle refugees in their community. Reshad and Zulfar Almadi fled Afghanistan with their two children in 2017 after being targeted by Taliban insurgents and have built new lives in Westchester, making their way to White Plains last fall with help from HIAS and resettlement committees from the Jewish Community Center of Harrison and Community Synagogue of Rye. On Fri., Feb. 3, during a special service at Community Synagogue of Rye, 200 Forest Ave. at 6:30 p.m., Reshad Ahmadi and his sister-in-law Wagma Stanikzal will share details about their escape from Kabul and their new lives in Westchester. On Sat., Feb. 4, Zulfar and her sister Wagam Stanikzal will join services at JCCH, 130 Union Ave., Harrison at 9:30 a.m. to talk about their journeys as refugees and their concern for women in their homeland under Taliban rule. The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College, 735 Anderson Hill Rd., will present Complexions Contemporary Ballet Sat., Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. in the PepsiCo Theatre. Pelham Art Center at 155 Fifth Ave. is displaying a new public art installation, “The Conversation Sculpture” by Brooklyn artist Musa Hixson. It is a 9 ft. x 6 ft. x 6 ft. steel sculpture that mimics a blooming flower with three seats enclosed in its frame. The interactive piece intends to facilitate new connections and encourage people to think differently about public space. Summer Camps

Friends of Rye Nature Center announces that online registration starts Fri., Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. for their Summer Program. At this time they are limiting registration to four weeks per child for day camp and three weeks for Paddle Adventure Camp. Full payment due upon registration. Summer Day Camp includes Explorers (preschool and K), Discoverers (grades K-5) and Naturalists in Training (grades 6 & 7). Paddle Adventure Camp is for campers entering grades 8, 9 or 10 and runs 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fee for Explorers is $425; for Discoverers fee is $450; for NIT fee is $495 and for Paddle Adventure Camp fee is $600.
