Dr. Haywood Robinson, former abortion provider and director of medical affairs & education of the peaceful, prayerful, effective 40 Days for Life project, will tell the story of this groundbreaking effort in White Plains Sun., Mar. 26. He will speak at a 40 Days for Life rally at 5 p.m. in the public right-of-way outside of Planned Parenthood, 175 Tarrytown Rd., White Plains. White Plains is one of hundreds of communities around the world conducting simultaneous 40 Days for Life campaigns through Apr. 2. 40 Days for Life is an intensive campaign that focuses on 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and grassroots educational outreach. Since 40 Days for Life began, over 22,000 mothers have chosen life for their children; more than 200 abortion workers have quit their jobs; and over 130 abortion centers where 40 Days for Life vigils have been held have gone out of business. The Construction Industry Council of Westchester and the Hudson Valley is hosting its annual Hudson Valley Construction Career Day Fri., Mar. 31, 9:30 a.m. at Rockland Community College, 145College Rd., Suffern. The event is key in educating students who aren’t necessarily college-bound about career opportunities in the trades, and some 700 kids in grades 10-12 from Westchester, Putnam, Orange, Duchess and Rockland school districts are expected to attend. Raising awareness about the benefits of apprenticeships and opportunities for skilled craftspeople is a priority for strengthening our workforce, communities and overall economy. Friends of Philipse Manor Hall will host an Old New Year’s Eve Celebration Fri., Mar. 24, 6:30-9 p.m. at Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site, 29 Warburton Ave., Yonkers. Westchester’s Go Red for Women® Celebration will be held Thurs., Mar. 30 at 5 p.m. at the Surf Club on the Sound, 280 Davenport Ave., New Rochelle. Pelham Art Center at 155 Fifth Ave. is displaying a new public art installation, “The Conversation Sculpture” by Brooklyn artist Musa Hixson. It is a 9 ft. x 6 ft. x 6 ft. steel sculpture that mimics a blooming flower with three seats enclosed in its frame. Westchester County’s Learn to Swim Program for children ages 3-14 is open for registration. New this year are sessions for adults beginning at age 15. The program will take place at all four county-owned pools—Saxon Woods in White Plains, Sprain Ridge and Tibbetts Brook, both in Yonkers. A later date will be announced for registration at Willson’s Woods in Mt. Vernon. Learn to Swim for children will be held in two sessions—Tues.-Thurs., with Session 1 Mon., July 3 (no class Thurs., July 4)-Thurs., July 20. Session 2 will run Tues., July 25-Thurs. Aug. 10. Class times are 9-9:50 a.m. and 9:55-10:15 a.m. for both sessions. Learn to Swim for ages 15 & older will be held in two sessions—Sat. & Sun., Sat., July 8-Sun., July 23 and Sat., July 29-Aug. 13.
