Port Chester American Legion Post 93 will hold its annual Memorial Day events and parade Mon., May 29 beginning at 8 a.m. with a Memorial Service at the Port Chester Marina to honor those servicemen who served and died at sea, then at 8:35 a.m. at William James Memorial Park; 8:55 a.m. at the Lyon Park Vietnam Memorial; 9:15 a.m. at Summerfield Park Spanish American War Memorial, 9:40 a.m. at the Pearl Street Civil War Monument; 10 a.m. at the American Legion, 78 Pearl St., 10:15 a.m. at Fire Department Headquarters on Westchester Avenue; 10:45 a.m. in Crawford Park at the Korean War Memorial and 11 a.m. at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Westchester Ave. and N. Regent Street. A parade down Westchester Avenue will follow.
The Port Chester Arts Festival will be held Sat., June. 3. It is a day-long celebration of the arts featuring local arts organizations. Businesses and artists will be opening their doors at 11 a.m. for a day of arts, exhibitions, art buying, family activities, open studios, performances, community art projects and more. Clay Art Center, 40 Beech St., will host an outdoor pottery sale from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., raku firing and wheel demos, open studios, a clay activity for kids and an exhibition on view in the library; Ice Cream Social Art Space, 40 Merritt St. will have an exhibition on view in the gallery and will host open artist studios and a family workshop, in addition to theater workshops led by LawnChair Theatre. Festival attendees are also welcome to attend the opening reception for the new exhibition from 5:30-8 p.m. Local artists will be showcasing a range of artworks at the Carver Center, Eugene’s Music & Learning Studio and Garcia’s at The Capitol Theatre, 149 Westchester Ave. Kids can learn jazz and adults can try salsa at Jete Dance Studio, 114 Pearl St. Miranda Arts Project Space and Crit Lab, 6 N. Pearl St., will host an exhibition and open artist studios throughout their building. The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library, 1 Haseco Ave. will have artmaking activities, artwork on display and a display of student work from Fashion Arts Studio of Westchester. The Port Chester Beautification Commission will be introducing the Village’s new Community Art Initiative and the first initiative project, PC Arts Week—Street Art, Selfie Murals & Spruced Up Fences. Festival visitors will be invited to use an art scavenger map that features hidden artworks by Port Chester High School students. Rye Brook Recreation has announced that signups are taking place now for Summer Day Camp for boys and girls entering grades K-6 and Teen Travel Camp for boys and girls entering grades 7-10. Clay Art Center, 40 Beech St., Port Chester will offer weekly themed half & full day Summer Camps for children & teens ages 7-15 June 26-Aug. 18. Campers will be shown a variety of techniques on and off the wheel. Camps for ages 7-11 will focus on handbuilding and sculpture; camps for ages 12-15 will focus on wheel throwing and handbuilding. Sample camps include Wheel and Beyond, Surface Design Time, Candy Crush, Amazing Animals, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Ancient Architects and many more. In the classroom, aspiring young artists will develop their imagination and build confidence while working in the transformational medium of clay.
