Port Chester police were called to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Willett and Terrace avenues on Monday, Sept. 4. Upon arriving at 7:36 p.m., officers met 29-year-old Melvin Salvador Perez.
When speaking with Perez, the officer allegedly smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and noticed that he was stumbling while walking.
Questioned on whether he had been drinking, Perez allegedly responded that he had “five Corona beers.” Standard field sobriety tests were administered to the 57 Poningo St. resident, during which the officer alleges that Perez was unable to stand on one leg. Perez then consented to a breath test, which detected alcohol in his system, leading to his arrest. His blood alcohol content was measured to be .19% later that evening, over two times the legal limit of .08.
Perez was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
