The Blind Brook girls’ varsity volleyball team continues to win, and with each victory they show more tenacity and reliance. They remain undefeated with a record of six wins, no losses and no ties. Up until their most recent game, they had also not given up a single set. They have won 18 sets in their games and only lost one set during the whole season thus far. Since their last game against Albertus Magnus, they have remained a force in the class, and they are looking towards more league games in the coming weeks which will impact their standings in the section.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, they played Tuckahoe which is in a class below Blind Brook, but they are in first place in Class C. This was another shutout by Blind Brook when they won yet another game 3-0. The scores of the sets were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-13. Fernanda Julian had 33 assists in this game, Ella Rosenfeld had 12 kills and two blocks, Oriah Rosenfeld had 19 kills, Tanisha Venkatapur had five kills, Georgianna Haas had five digs and three aces and Maria Leyva had six digs.
For their most recent game the Lady Trojans played against Edgemont on Monday, Sept 23. The final score was 3-0 with sets of 25-19, 25-15, 25-16. Julian had 21 assists, Ella Rosenfeld had 10 kills and two blocks, Oriah Rosenfeld had 10 kills, Leyva had 19 digs and Haas had seven digs.
Their previous game was Friday, Sept. 20 against Rye. This school is in Class A, so the Lady Trojans knew this was going to be a difficult game, but they were determined to keep an undefeated record. They remained victorious; however, this was the team they lost their first set to. Blind Brook held them to only one set and the final score was 3-1. Julian had 33 assists, Ella Rosenfeld had 10 kills, four blocks and four aces, Oriah Rosenfeld had 17 kills and 15 digs, Leyva had 23 digs and Haas had four aces.
Julian, senior setter on the team, has been a consistent force for the past four years which is clearly seen through the number of assists she has made in her career. She not only is a leader on the court for her teammates, but she continues to be a crucial piece on the team, creating 33 points on the court in her past two games. She is approaching the 1,500 assists milestone after already reaching 1,000 assists last season. Reflecting on the team, she said, “I think this team is really special. The team consists mostly of returning players, which has helped us come together and play as a unit really well. We are undefeated so far, and I think we have a very real chance of going back to sectionals and even further. I love these girls so much, and I’m so happy to spend my last season as a Trojan with them.”
They are currently tied for first place in Class B. This is a four-way tie with Briarcliff High School, Irvington High School and Valhalla High School. All four teams remain undefeated, but they are all at different points in their season. Both Briarcliff and Valhalla are in the same league as Blind Brook, so the result of the games when they play together will decide who is the leader in this class. Make sure to go out and support the team in their upcoming games at home on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. against league opponent Valhalla, Monday, Sept. 30 away against non-league opponent Sleepy Hollow at 4:45 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 1 away against league opponent Rye Neck at 4:30 p.m.
