Master Sergeant Carlos R. Sanchez retires from Air Force after 24 years

Master Sergeant Carlos R. Sanchez, the son of Petrona and Carlos Sanchez of Port Chester, was honored at a retirement ceremony from the United States Air Force on Aug. 2, 2019.

Sanchez retired as a member of the 60th Maintenance Group at Travis Air Force Base in California.

Presiding officer at the ceremony was Lt. Col. Clinton B. Varty, Deputy Commander, 60th Maintenance Group, at Travis Air Force Base.

MSgt. Sanchez was born and raised in Port Chester. On Oct. 18, 1995, shortly after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force as a Fuel Systems Technician.

Throughout his journey, Sergeant Sanchez served in six major commands across nine bases, enabling him to become a well-rounded maintainer while allowing him to make a difference in the lives of the Airmen around him. This chapter of his life, spanning over the last 24 years, would not have been possible without the support of his friends, family, his best friend and wife Evangelina and his children Elijah and Ava.

His background includes duties as an Aircraft Fuel Systems Technician, NCOIC External Tank Repair, Assistant Section Chief, Field Training Detachment Instructor, Quality Assurance Chief Inspector and acting First Sergeant (HUA). As an Aircraft Fuel System Maintainer, he led contingency maintenance operations during Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. He completed numerous major deployments in direct support of Operation Southern Watch, Noble Eagle, Iron Eagle, Mountain Thrust, Inherent Resolve and Freedom’s Sentinel.

* Air Force Achievement Medal with 4 OLC

* Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 6 OLC

* National Defense Service Medal with 1 OLC

* Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal

* Korean Service Defense Medal

Over his 24-year Air Force career, Sanchez was assigned first as a Basic Trainee from October to December 1995 at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

From December 1995 to February 1996, he was a Technical School Student at Sheppard AFB in Texas.

From February 1996 to May 2000, he was an Aircraft Fuel Systems Apprentice at Edwards AFB in California.

From May 2000 to June 2001, he was an Aircraft Fuel Systems Journeyman at Kunsan Air Base in the Republic of Korea.

From January 2001 to February 2009, he was an Aircraft Fuel Systems Craftsman at Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina.

From February 2009 to February 2013, he was a Field Training Instructor at Kadena Air Base in Japan.

And, finally, from February 2013 until his retirement, he was stationed at Travis AFB, first as Aircraft Fuel System Assistant Section Chief, then as Quality Assurance Chief Inspector and lastly as Acting First Sergeant (HUA) at 60th AMW, 60 MXS/MXG.
