Port Chester police need help with their investigation regarding a car accident last week that resulted in a fatality.

A little before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, a man was struck by a vehicle at the Irving Avenue and North Regent Street intersection, according to police Lieutenant Charles Nielsen. The car was driving from the direction of Westchester Avenue.

The victim was identified as 61-year-old Rye volunteer firefighter Richard Cadigan. He was transported to Westchester Medical Center after the incident but did not survive the injuries.

While the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, Nielsen said police do not have a clear understanding of what happened during the accident, and they request any witnesses to come forward with any information.

“The problem is we don’t know what happened,” Nielsen said. “It was a rainy, dark, cold night. There were a lot of people around, a lot of people stopped to help, but we haven’t had anyone contact us yet to tell us what they saw. Any information right now would be helpful.”

Seeking closure and a conclusion to their investigation, police would like anyone who witnessed the accident to call them at 914-939-6332.
