An 18 Greenwood Ave. resident allegedly walked out of the Stop & Shop at 25 Waterfront Pl. on Friday, Feb. 15, without paying for a six-pack of Heineken.
The loss prevention officer called Port Chester police at 5:30 p.m., after he allegedly watched the man take the beers, walk over to the Wingstop parking lot and give the drinks to a friend who in turn put them in a backpack. Police continued to canvass the area with the loss prevention officer to look for the suspect.
During their search, the cops were ultimately led to the Village Laundromat at 39 N. Main St., where the loss prevention officer allegedly identified the 37-year-old alleged thief. According to the police report, he was hanging out with a few other people, and an open backpack between their legs revealed the stolen Heinekens.
Christian Tapia was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
