When Stop & Shop loss prevention officers allegedly saw a man dressed in a grey sweatshirt and sweatpants placing various groceries into a black gym bag on Saturday, Feb. 23, they became suspicious and called Port Chester police at 2:50 p.m.
Police met with the store manager outside of the 25 Waterfront Pl. business while the 13 Weber Dr. resident continued shopping inside. As the manager told them about their suspicions, a loss prevention officer radioed to inform them the man was leaving the store. Soon after, police allegedly saw a man matching the description leave with a cart full of groceries and a black gym bag.
The cops stopped Enmanuel Pena and asked him to provide a receipt as proof of purchase. Inside the gym bag, they allegedly found $374 worth of meat, seafood, produce and hygiene products that could not be accounted for on the receipt.
The 37-year-old was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
