After two groups in separate cars got into a driving dispute on Monday, June 17, the argument allegedly got heated and resulted in damage to one of the vehicles.

A bystander who witnessed the alleged incident at the Garibaldi Place and West Street intersection called Rye Brook police at 1:57 p.m. The argument involved a group of men in a work truck and other men in a Mercedes, according to police Lieutenant J. Arnold. Ultimately, a 20-year-old passenger allegedly took out a knife and slashed one of the truck’s tires.

By the time police arrived, the Mercedes had already allegedly fled the scene. However, after surveilling the area, the officers allegedly found the 80 Poningo St. resident inside the Mercedes in question on Gilbert Place.

Derek Rodriguez was charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree and menacing in the second degree, both misdemeanors.
