The number of positive COVID-19 cases continued to rise this week as Rye Brook and Port Chester reached a combined total of almost 440 cases.

As of Wednesday, Apr. 8, Rye Brook had 81 cases, an increase of 33 cases since the week prior.

“As we enter week four of the coronavirus pandemic here in (New York), I am encouraged and thankful by what I’ve been seeing while driving around the Village.” Mayor Paul Rosenberg stated in an Apr. 5 update. “For the most part, I see everyone making an active attempt to keep themselves at least six feet from each other. The Village really appreciates your efforts to distance yourselves.”

The Village of Port Chester now has 355 cases, 232 more than last week.

“It’s important for us to continue our practice of sheltering in place, working from home and practicing our social distancing,” Village Manager Christopher Steers said in a video update on Wednesday, Apr. 8.

Flyers will be posted around the Village to remind residents to maintain social distancing. Steers reiterated the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendation to wear a mask or some type of face covering while in public.

“It’s not a replacement for the social distancing, so you still must maintain that six-foot distance to keep yourself safe and the others around you safe,” he said.

It is expected the number of cases in both villages will continue to rise.

In New York, at press time there were more than 149,000 cases with Westchester accounting for 15,800 of them.
