Mayor asks Corbia to step down from Housing Authority board

Port Chester Mayor Richard “Fritz” Falanka has followed through with his board’s request at their Dec. 7 meeting to ask Tom Corbia to step down from the Port Chester Housing Authority board.
Falanka sent a certified letter to Corbia dated Dec. 14 asking for his resignation from the position to which the mayor appointed him.
“Please advise me of your decision no later than December 21, 2020,” states the letter. “If I do not hear from you by that date, I will assume that you do not wish to tender your resignation.”
The mayor attached the resolution passed by the Village Board of Trustees last Monday to the letter. It references the “inappropriate and racist comments on social media [that have] allegedly been attributed to Mr. Corbia.” The posts have caused a commotion in the majority minority community because Corbia is president of the Port Chester Board of Education as well as chairman of the Port Chester Housing Authority board.
The Board of Education has attempted to investigate the racist comments but has not received Corbia’s full cooperation as he has refused to turn over his cell phone to T&M Protection Resources, the New York City-based security service the school board hired, to verify whether he posted them or was hacked as he has claimed.
Furthermore, Corbia has chosen not to step down from the Board of Education.
In their resolution, the Port Chester Board of Trustees also called on the mayor to conduct an independent investigation to determine if grounds exist for Corbia’s removal from the PCHA board.
