Irving Ave. streetlights to be repaired soon

The streetlights at the four-way intersections at Irving Avenue and North Pearl Street, as well as at Irving Avenue and Poningo Street, have been out for over a month.
“There was a short in the control box that could not be readily repaired (a new box is needed),” stated Port Chester Village Manager Christopher Steers in an email. “It will take about a week from the notice to proceed; at this point it should be repaired by the end of next week.”
According to Steers, there is funding for signal repairs and the project to repair the lights was sent out to bid. The bid responses came in on Jan. 31 and were supposed to be awarded at a special Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 19. However, that meeting was cancelled. The Board will be having an agenda work session meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at which the bid is expected to be awarded.
According to the resolution included in the backup for the cancelled Feb. 19 meeting agenda, the village received two bids and it is recommended that the village board accepts the low bid of $64,500 from Verde Electric Maintenance Corp.
For this amount, pedestrian signals at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Willett Avenue, as well as at Westchester Avenue and Abendroth Avenue, will be repaired as well.
Stop signs requiring four-way stops have been temporarily placed at both Irving Avenue intersections.
