Election counting pushed back a week
June 11, 2020 at 8:23 a.m.
To make it easier to ensure every New Yorker submitting a ballot in a school board election and budget vote is counted, Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order on Sunday, June 7, extending the mail-in deadline for ballots.
Votes were due at the District Clerk’s office in both the Port Chester and Blind Brook School Districts at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9. Originally, school officials and hired election inspectors were planning to count the ballots that night, with the intentions and ambitions of announcing results the following day.
However, the governor’s new order allows ballots with a June 9 postmark to be valid if delivered through Tuesday, June 16. Thus, both school districts have delayed their canvasing date until then.
On June 16, the Port Chester School District will livestream the verification and counting process. A link will be available on the district website.
