Scenes from a movie that was to be called “Going Places” were shot in Port Chester in August 2016. However, the film never appeared—until now, that is—and the name has changed.
Now called “The Jesus Rolls,” it is a long-delayed spinoff of “The Big Lebowski,” the Coen brothers’ film from 1998. As described in the New York Times, “The Jesus Rolls” revives “the notorious purple-clad bowling virtuoso” named Jesus Quintana that John Turturro played in “The Big Lebowski.” Turturro wrote, directed and stars in this latest effort.
Scenes were filmed on Willett Avenue between North Main Street and the railroad bridge as well as in the hair salon at 110 Willett Ave. which was then called Artemis Hair Design and was recently renamed New Me Beauty Lounge.
A review of the movie appeared in the Times on Feb. 27. Besides Turturro, it stars Audrey Tautou, Bobby Cannavale, Susan Sarandon and Jon Hamm as a hair stylist.
If you watch the trailer, you see the building at 110 Willett Ave. in the background as well as the shootout that was filmed at night on that section of the street with many community residents watching from the sidelines back in 2016.
“The Jesus Rolls” is showing at select theaters including the IFC Center at 323 6th Ave. in New York City and is also available streaming on Pay-Per-View/Video on Demand.
