Assemblyman Steve Otis, who is running for re-election as representative for the 91st district, has recently been endorsed by two progressive organizations.

After holding his seat for four consecutive two-year terms, Otis is being challenged in the Democratic Assembly primary by newcomer Meg Cameron. Voters will be able to cast their ballots for either of the Rye candidates on June 23. Due to COVID-19 concerns, absentee ballots will be available to all registered Democrats.

On Wednesday, May 20, Otis received an endorsement based on the work he’s done in the Assembly to push for clean water infrastructure throughout the state. The New York League of Conservation Voters, a nonpartisan organization that fights for clean water, air and renewable energy, vouched for the candidate—claiming he’s committed to protecting the environment and public health.

On Apr. 29, the Political Action Committee Planned Parenthood Empire State Votes endorsed Otis for the seat, claiming he is a “long-time champion for reproductive health and rights.”

Campaigning largely on her profile of volunteerism, Cameron is particularly proud about her work serving on the Executive Board of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic for nine years.

“The important work of protecting the health care needs of women, reproductive rights and personal freedom continues as new threats come from Washington and the federal courts,” Otis stated. “I have worked on these issues for decades and thank Planned Parenthood Empire State Votes for their endorsement in this year’s election.”
