Port Chester hit a milestone this week: the village has less than 100 active cases of the novel coronavirus in the community.
Last week, there were 101 active cases of COVID-19. As of Wednesday, May 27, the village’s total stood at 80 active cases and 1,205 since its first recorded case.
Rye Brook was closer to reaching zero active cases as the village only had five as of Wednesday. This is a drop of eight cases since the week before, making a total of 175 cumulative cases in the community.
In New York, there were almost 367,000 cases of the virus at press time, with over 33,000 of them coming from Westchester.
On Tuesday, May 26, the Mid-Hudson region reached another milestone after meeting all seven of the criteria to enter Phase 1 of reopening. Reaching this goal means construction, agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, curbside or in-store retail pickup, manufacturing and wholesale trade can resume.
Two weeks must pass before the region can enter the next phase. This allows for all health metrics to be monitored and ensure infection rates do not increase.
