Milestone 9/11 Day of Remembrance
August 19, 2021 at 5:06 a.m.
September 11, 2021 will mark the 20th anniversary of the date our homeland was attacked and more than 3,000 lives were lost. 9/11 Day was created in 2002 as a way to meaningfully honor the memories of those who were lost Sept. 11, 2001 and to inspire Americans and others to do good deeds in support of creating a better and more peaceful world.
It is also a day that is meant to help rekindle the spirit of togetherness, volunteerism and compassion that followed Sept. 11, 2001.
This year Volunteer New York and Westchester County will offer a community-wide opportunity to participate in this year’s milestone 9/11 National Day of Service. Online registration is open for volunteers to sign up in the spirit of remembrance and resilience to transform the 20th anniversary of the tragedy into the largest day of service in U.S. history.
Events will take place throughout the County from Thurs., Sept. 9-Sun., Sept. 12 and will include:
*Thurs., Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.—a free webinar: Volunteering with Equity in Mind (virtual). Open to all.
*Sat., Sept. 11—Croton Point Park cleanup event, 9-11 a.m. and 12-2 p.m. Croton-on Hudson and Tibbetts Brook cleanup event 9-11 a.m. and 12-2 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park, Yonkers.

Advance registration is required for all events at volunteernewyork.org/service. Before registering for any 9/11 Day event, review the project’s online opportunity description to find out if a project is family-friendly or has requirements, like mask wearing.
