Carver Center provides meals to P.C. children this summer

Port Chester Carver Center will again be providing healthy meals during the summer months to Port Chester School District children through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a federally-funded, state-administered program that serves free meals to children and teens in low-income areas.

Meals will be provided to all children ages 18 and under without charge on a first come, first served basis.

Meals on Main Street will collaborate with Carver by providing weekend meals for the whole family on Fridays. Last summer, Carver Center distributed 16,919 free breakfasts and lunches to families through this program.

Beginning July 12, the Carver Center has been distributing meals each weekday at two locations in Port Chester, the Thomas A. Edison School at 132 Rectory St. and the JFK Elementary School at 40 Olivia St. Hours for pick up are 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

No paperwork or proof of income will be required to receive the meals. Grab and go meals will be provided so families can continue to follow safe distancing guidelines.

“The effects of the pandemic remain real and long-lasting to our Port Chester community. Our families are still struggling to provide an ongoing source of healthy meals to their families. We are grateful to be able to once again provide this valuable service,” said Anne Bradner, CEO, Carver Center.

Throughout the summer, families may continue to pick up food at the Carver Center Market at 400 Westchester Ave. during regular market hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
