Blind Brook students host bracelet fundraiser for UN-backed gender empowerment campaign

Blind Brook High School students held a bracelet drive at the Rye Ridge Shopping Center on Saturday, Mar. 20, as part of a fundraising campaign for the organization Girl Up.
The fundraiser ran from 2-4 p.m., serving as the second in a series of four campaigns scheduled.
A new club at the high school, Girl Up helps its members envision a world where all girls around the world achieve equality and bridge equity gaps in education, access to health care, safety, and opportunities to be part of the next generation of leaders.
Blind Brook chapter members sold pink and black bracelets that state "Empowering Girls Together," joining in the mission for funding efforts of gender equality.
Founded in 2010 by the United Nations Foundation, Girl Up provides girls the resources and platform to start a movement for social charge, regardless of where they are in the world. The organization also provides a basic structure for American girls to learn about what it takes to become global leaders and channel their energy effectively, all the while retaining compassion for their community. The UN program claims it uses many of the funds to help achieve equity for some of the world's hardest-to-reach adolescent girls.
Girl Up club members will hold two more fundraisers, on Apr. 10 and Apr. 18, at the Rye Ridge Shopping Center. If you would like to show support and purchase a bracelet, visit the booth and donate.
