Veterans Day will be observed Thurs., Nov. 11. It is a federal holiday in the U.S observed annually on Nov. 11 to honor military veterans--those who have served in the U. S. Armed Forces. Originally known as Armistice Day, it commemorated the end of World War I when an armistice was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Port Chester and Blind Brook schools will be closed as will government offices in the Town of Rye and the Villages of Rye Brook and Port Chester, most banks, the Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library and the post office; there will be no mail delivery. In Port Chester there is no change in garbage collection this week. In Rye Brook Mon., Tues., Wed. & Fri. collections will remain the same. Wed. recycling will be collected Tues.; Thurs. garbage, bulk & recycling will be collected Wed. No green waste collection this week.

Bulk pickup dates in Port Chester are Nov. 17, Dec. 1 & 15.

The King Street School PTA will present their Annual Tag Sale Sat., Nov. 6, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the blacktop at the school, 697 King St., Port Chester.

Rye Brook Recreation is offering a Youth Flag Football program Sat., Nov. 6-Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. outdoors at the Rye Brook Athletic Field on Saturdays and/or Sundays. The first week of the program is 4th-6th graders at 1 p.m.,7th-9th graders at 2:15 p.m. and 10th-12th graders at 3:30 p.m. (boys and girls). Nov. 6 will be a pick-up game format, and teams will be made prior to the next week along with schedules. Players must wear masks and gloves at all times. $100. Veterans Luncheon: Father John M. Grady Council #503 of the Knights of Columbus, 327 Westchester Ave., Port Chester will host a Thank You Luncheon for veterans and their families Sat., Nov. 6 at 12 noon. All military veterans and their families are invited. Menu: bread & butter, tossed garden salad, BBQ chicken, stuffed shells, Portuguese shrimp. The local Veterans Day commemoration will take place Sun., Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at Veterans’ Memorial Park on the top of Westchester Avenue, Port Chester.

A Free Food/Mobile Food Pantry will be held at Drew Gardens, 10-22 Drew St., Port Chester Sat., Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. The pantry makes food more accessible in underserved neighborhoods where people may not be able to access food through traditional grocery stores or food pantries. CDC guidelines will be followed to ensure community safety. Everyone must bring their own reusable bag.

Music in the Mansion at Crawford Park in Rye Brook will take place Sat., Nov. 13 featuring Hubby Jenkins with guest Ian Polanco. The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library has announced that registration is open for their November Grab and Go Thanksgiving Craft. Pickup will be Nov. 10-23. Yoga in the Park with Jamie Maldonado at Crawford Park Mansion, 122 N. Ridge St., Rye Brook takes place every Sun., 9:30-10:30 a.m. All levels welcome.
