Pattern for Progress to host listening sessions for housing needs assessment in Port Chester

Virtual and in-person sessions will help research team understand local housing needs

Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress will host three community meetings in the Village of Port Chester to gather information about local housing needs. The meetings are an opportunity for community members, businesses and other stakeholders to provide information that will be included in a housing needs assessment that Pattern researchers are compiling for the village.

A housing needs assessment uses data and community input to examine whether an adequate quantity of housing exists within a community, the affordability of that housing compared to local incomes, and the full range of opportunities and impediments that exist within a local housing market. Importantly, this type of assessment also provides local communities with recommendations that can be used to encourage the development or revitalization of housing that is necessary to support local workers and families.

Input from community members is important to the success and completeness of a housing needs assessment. That is why Pattern for Progress has scheduled three community engagement sessions—including one virtual session—for its housing assessment in Port Chester. The community is encouraged to meet with the research team on one of the following three dates:

*Monday, May 9, at the Carver Center, 400 Westchester Ave., from 6-8 p.m. Parking is available at the Carver Center, but parking spots along the fence on the left side of the lot, which are labeled 1-10, are off limits.

*Thursday, May 12, during a virtual session that will run from 5:30-7 p.m. Those interested in the virtual session can click or type the following link to register: https://bit.ly/PortChesterHousing

*Friday, May 13, at the Metro-North station in Port Chester, from 7-9 a.m. Researchers will have a table at the train station to talk with commuters and other community members.

Spanish interpretation will be provided at each of the community meetings to help the research team gather information from Spanish-speaking members of the community. Anyone with questions about the community meetings can reach Pattern for Progress at (845) 565-4900.
