Lowey endorses Vedat Gashi, shaking up 16th CD primary

In a major announcement late Wednesday, Aug. 3, former 17th CD Congresswoman Nita Lowey threw her support behind Vedat Gashi, the Democratic County Legislator who was the first announced challenger to 16th CD incumbent Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman.
Gashi confirmed Lowey’s backing in a telephone call to the Westmore News.
Gashi’s media team quoted Lowey’s endorsement as follows:
“Over the course of my 32 years in Congress, I represented nearly all of the communities now included in the 16th CD. As chair of the House Appropriations Committee, I focused on national, international and local issues of importance to my Westchester constituents.
“Today, I announce my enthusiastic support of Vedat Gashi for Congress. Vedat is young, smart, experienced, and hard working. He shares my values and priorities. If elected, he will be a worthy successor.”
