Jamaal Bowman wins Democratic primary

In the 16th Congressional District Democratic primary election that concluded on Tuesday, Aug. 23, incumbent Rep. Jamaal Bowman was the big winner, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County and City of New York Boards of Elections. With 21,031 votes, he received more than 54% of the vote.
Next in line was County Legislator Vedat Gashi with 9,765 votes followed by County Legislator Catherine F. Parker with 7,301 votes. Although he had dropped out of the race, Mark Jaffe still appeared on the ballot and garnered 597 votes.
Bowman will face Republican Dr. Miriam Levitt Flisser, a pediatrician and former Scarsdale mayor, in the November election.
Following redistricting, District 16 for the U.S. House of Representatives comprises the southern half of Westchester, including Port Chester and Rye Brook, and the northern Bronx.
