The Zamir Choral Foundation will celebrate Hanukkah and the 75^th anniversary of the State of Israel in a multi-generational musical celebration on the first night of Hanukkah, Sun., Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Kaufman Music Center, 129 W. 67^th St., NYC. The concert will feature Zamir Chorale, the well-known proponent of Jewish choral music, and Zamir Noded, the Zamir Choral Foundation’s inspiring ensemble of young professionals. The choirs, performing separately and together, will sing traditional and contemporary music that celebrates the joy, history and meaning of Hanukkah and the State of Israel. Nutcracker Dream will be presented at KOI Creative Event Space, 169 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains on the second floor above Lilly’s, a restaurant reminiscent of the great Victorian “gin palaces” that thrived in industrial cities of England and Northern Ireland. Lilly’s will host a unique Sugarplum Holiday Tea experience at 4 p.m. each day during the week of performances except Tuesday. It is a celebration of painting-- a foundational element of MJFA’s program over the past 20 years through the practice of seven contemporary artists. As the most enduring medium of Western European “high art” over centuries, the tradition of painting began with the earliest humans and continues to be privileged today as a medium for art and Lawrence Schiller: Marilyn Monroe & American Icons thru Dec. 31. The themes of celebrity and scandal anchor much of Schiller’s diverse body of work which spans from photography and nonfiction writing to directing Oscar-winning films including “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “The Man Who Skied Down Everest.” His most iconic images capture a nude Marilyn Monroe filming a pool scene for the motion picture “Something’s Got to Give” just a few months before her death in 1962. Pelham Art Center at 155 Fifth Ave. is displaying a new public art installation, “The Conversation Sculpture,” by Brooklyn artist Musa Hixson. It is a 9 ft. x 6 ft. x 6 ft. steel sculpture that mimics a blooming flower with three seats enclosed in its frame. The interactive piece intends to facilitate new connections and encourage people to think differently about public space.
