Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a federal holiday, will be observed Mon., Jan. 17. Government offices in the Town of Rye and Villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook will be closed as will most banks, Port Chester and Blind Brook schools, the library and the post office; there will be no mail delivery. In Rye Brook Monday garbage will be collected Tuesday; Tuesday garbage collection will be Wednesday; Wednesday, Thursday & Friday collections remain the same. No green waste collection this week. In Port Chester, despite the holiday, garbage collection will be on a regular schedule. There will be no parking meter enforcement downtown on Jan. 17.
The Ministerial Council of Port Chester, Mamaroneck and Greenwich, Ct. will be observing the 36th National Holiday Celebration of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Sun., Jan. 16 at 3 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 136 E. William St., Port Chester. Rev. James Furman of Mt. Zion Christian Center in Mt. Vernon will be the keynote speaker. Music by the Bethesda Baptist Church Choir and friends. Humanitarian awards will be presented to former Port Chester Police Chief Richard Conway and Joseph Mosely, director of the Bethesda Baptist Church Choir. All are invited.
The Town of Rye will lead a clean-up on Sun., Jan. 16, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the African American Cemetery, 215 North St., Rye in observance of MLK Jr. Day. The Port Chester Mobile Pantry will be at Drew Gardens, 10-22 Drew St., Port Chester Sat., Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. CDC guidelines will be followed to ensure community safety. The Mobile Pantry makes food more accessible in underserved neighborhoods where people may not be able to access food through traditional grocery stores or food pantries.
