Memorial Day, a national holiday, will be observed Mon., May 30. Government offices in the Town of Rye and the Villages of Rye Brook and Port Chester will be closed, as will most banks, Port Chester and Blind Brook schools and the post office. There will be no mail delivery. The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library will be closed Fri. & Mon., May 27 & 30. BMPRSS will be closed Fri., May 27 due to an unused snow day; The Middle School and High School will have a regular school day May 27. In Rye Brook, Mon. garbage will be collected Tues., Tues. garbage will be collected Wed.; Thurs. & Fri. garbage and recycling collections remain the same as does bulk collection. No green waste collection this week. In Port Chester, there will be no collection of household garbage or recycling Mon.; Mon. collection will move to Tues., Tues., garbage & recycling will be collected Wed.; Thurs. & Fri. pickups are unchanged. There will be no curbside trash and/or green waste pickups Wed., June 1. Violators will be subject to summons and fines.

Knights of Columbus, Council 530 and Knights of Columbus, Assembly 692 will hold a Memorial Day Flag Placement Ceremony honoring Civil War Medal of Honor recipient Nicholas Fox Sat., May 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery, lower section adjacent to corner of High Street and S. Ridge Street, Rye Brook. All area Scouts (please wear your best "Class A" uniform), parents, veterans and members of the Port Chester & Rye Brook Fire Departments and the community are invited to participate. There will be an opening ceremony honoring Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor and Medal of Valor Recipient Nicholas Fox who is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The ceremony will include information about Memorial Day, a reading of Pvt. Fox’s Medal of Honor Citation, Color Guard (American Legion Post 90, Mamaroneck), a rifle salute and Taps (American Legion Post 112, Hawthorne). Pvt./Cpt. Fox was a member of Putnam Engine & Hose Company and a resident of Port Chester. Following the ceremony there will be an all-hands effort to replace all the American flags on veterans' graves and to add a U.S. flag to each veteran grave that does not have one. The public is invited to honor Pvt./Cpt. Nicholas Fox and all the deceased veterans at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Port Chester American Legion Post 93 will host their annual Memorial Day events and parade on Mon., May 30. Events will begin at 8:45 a.m. with a Memorial Service at the Village Marina to honor those servicemen who served and died at sea. There will be a Color Guard, firing team and flowers will be strewn upon the water; then Taps will be played. At 9 a.m. there will be Color Guard, firing team and Taps at William James Memorial Gateway Park on N. Main St. At 9:15 a.m. there will be Color Guard, firing team and Taps at the Vietnam War Memorial and Police Memorial in Lyon Park, corner of King St. and Putnam Ave. At 9:30 a.m. there will be Color Guard, firing team and Taps at the Spanish War Memorial in Summerfield Park, King St. and Willett Ave. At 9:45 a.m. there will be Color Guard, firing team and Taps at the Civil War Memorial, corner of Post Rd. and Pearl St. At 10 a.m. there will be the firing team at the American Legion Post 93 on Pearl St. At 10:30 a.m. there will be Color Guard, firing team and Taps at the Port Chester Fire Department Headquarters on Westchester Ave. At 10:45 a.m. there will be Color Guard, firing team and Taps at the Korean War Memorial in Crawford Park, off Ridge St., Rye Brook. At 11 a.m. ceremonies will begin at Veterans Memorial Park at N. Regent St. and Westchester Ave. After the ceremonies there will be a parade down Westchester Ave. to Broad St.

The Blind Brook High School Class of 2025 will hold a fundraiser at Chipotle in Rye Brook Wed., June 1. Support the Class of 2025 and order dinner between 4 and 8 p.m. and mention the Blind Brook Freshman Class. 33% of the proceeds will be donated to that class. The Port Chester Free Food Mobile Food Pantry will be at Drew Gardens, 10-22 Drew St., Port Chester Sat., June 4 at 1 p.m. The Mobile Pantry makes food more accessible in underserved neighborhoods where people may not be able to access food through traditional grocery stores or food pantries. CDC guidelines will be followed to ensure community safety. Everyone must bring their own reusable bag.

The Council of Community Services will hold their annual meeting and celebration honoring the Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS with the Extra Mile Award Wed., June 8, 5-7 p.m. at Posillipo Center, 32 Garibaldi Pl., Rye Brook. Clay Art Center, 40 Beech St., Port Chester offers Maker Night for ages 17+, one-time pottery wheel class. Fridays 7-9 p.m. This is a creative night out for adults. $65 per person; Family Wheel Night for ages 10+. The Port Chester-Rye Brook Rotary Club will host their 100-Year Anniversary Celebration Fundraiser Thurs., June 16, 6:30-9:30 p.m. in Rye Town Park—Oakland Beach Pavilion, 95 Dearborn Ave., Rye. Rye Brook Recreation will offer a 6-week Summer Day Camp and Teen Travel Camp, July 5-Aug. 12, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Registration is open. Day Camp--$1150 for first child; additional child is $900. Cerebral Palsy Westchester, 1186 King St., Rye Brook will offer the Jimmy Vejar Summer Day Camp June 27-Aug. 12.
