The Toonerville Music Festival will take place in Pelham Sat., Sept. 17. The festival is named for the famous Toonerville Trolley that carried residents of this small commuter town up and down its main street to what is now the Metro-North train into Manhattan thru July 31, 1937. The Dobbs Ferry Historical Society will commemorate the 241st anniversary of the Continental Army’s departure from our area Sun., Sept. 18 with a 1½ mile march tracing the beginning of the route. This year’s march, led by the fife and drum and the 2nd NY Regiment will start at Gould Park, 91 Ashford Ave., stop at the Little White Church Cemetery to honor veterans buried there and end at Mead House for activities and refreshments. Historic Hudson Valley has announced that their sites will be open thru Nov. 6. Exhibits

The Katonah Museum of Art, 134 Jay St. is featuring Tradition Interrupted. The exhibit explores the methods used by artists to conflate contemporary ideas with traditional arts and crafts in a range of media, from rugs and mosaics to metalwork and ceramics and Remy Jungerman: Higher Ground whose works explore connections between pattern and symbol in Surinamese maroon culture and European “modernism;” Jella Gueramian: Let’s Step Inside which features whimsical creatures and surprising elements hand-crafted from recycled textiles; The Rothko Room: Untitled 1969 which features a single work by the abstract painter, Mark Rothko. These exhibits are on view thru Sun., Sept. 25. There will be a special program Sun., Sept. 18, 4-5:30 p.m. Discover the power of personal stories, as storytellers share their own experiences on the theme of “tradition interrupted” in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden. $25 for non-members. The Donald Gallery at the South Presbyterian Church, 343 S. Broadway, Dobbs Ferry will feature the exhibit, If You Are Quiet: An Artistic Journey in Joy, Discovery and Nature, thru Sun., Oct. 23. The works of Westchester County’s Kathleen McCarthy-Udoff, an intergenerational theater educator inspired to launch a fine arts career in her 50’s to “quiet the world a little,” will be featured. Pelham Art Center at 155 Fifth Ave. is displaying a new public art installation, “The Conversation Sculpture,” by Brooklyn artist Musa Hixson. It is a 9 ft. x 6 ft. x 6 ft. steel sculpture that mimics a blooming flower with three seats enclosed in its frame. The interactive piece intends to facilitate new connections and encourage people to think differently about public space.
