Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, will begin at sundown Sun., Sept. 25 and corresponds to the year 5783 on the Hebrew calendar. Rosh Hashana, which means head of the year, is celebrated for two days by Orthodox and Conservative congregations and for one day by Reform congregations. The holiday is marked by the sounding of the shofar (ram’s horn), eating apples dipped in honey and other sweet foods for a sweet new year. Rosh Hashana begins the 10 days of repentance culminating on Yom Kippur. Area synagogues will hold services in person and livestreamed. Admission to in-person services is by ticket only due to security restrictions. Blind Brook and Port Chester schools will be closed Mon. & Tues., Sept. 26 & 27 in observance of Rosh Hashana.

The Annual Breast Cancer Dinner, hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary of The Knights of Columbus, will be held Fri., Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Hall, 327 Westchester Ave., Port Chester. Rye Brook Seniors will present a trip aboard the Bridgeport Ferry to Port Jefferson Wed., Sept. 28. Canceled shows: Bella Fleck & The Fleckstones; Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Lake Street Drive, Bombay Bicycle Club, Michael Franti, Sunrise Day Camp Benefit, Billy Strings, Saving Grace, The Fab Faux and Devon Allman Band & Samantha Fish Band (previously June 17, 2022). Exhibits

Clay Art Center, 40 Beech St., Port Chester will present The Family Portrait in the gallery and online thru Oct. 15. The exhibition explores the family unit in contemporary culture and society. The exhibition presents work from artists drawn from across the US and includes emerging and established ceramic artists and Susan Wortman: Winged Woman, Sat., Oct. 1-Oct. 31. She will present 50 pieces of her winged women series of small sculptures. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of each work of art will be donated to the Cancer Support Team.
