Children will learn how apples grow from seed to tree, to fruit and then transform into tasty treats like apple cider. Learn how honeybees work together to build their colony, collect food, raise new bees and make honey. The exhibit explores the methods used by artists to conflate contemporary ideas with traditional arts and crafts in a range of media, from rugs and mosaics to metalwork and ceramics and Remy Jungerman: Higher Ground whose works explore connections between pattern and symbol in Surinamese maroon culture and European “modernism;” Jella Gueramian: Let’s Step Inside which features whimsical creatures and surprising elements hand-crafted from recycled textiles; The Rothko Room: Untitled 1969 which features a single work by the abstract painter, Mark Rothko. Pelham Art Center at 155 Fifth Ave. is displaying a new public art installation, “The Conversation Sculpture,” by Brooklyn artist Musa Hixson. It is a 9 ft. x 6 ft. x 6 ft. steel sculpture that mimics a blooming flower with three seats enclosed in its frame. The interactive piece intends to facilitate new connections and encourage people to think differently about public space.
