Playland Park in Rye 2023 schedule: Fridays in August, 12-10 p.m., Saturdays in August., 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sundays in August, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and Wed. & Thurs. in August., 12-9 p.m. Beach & pool hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Playland is closed Mondays. There will be a special event—The World’s Largest Rubber Duck, along with her baby duckling, will make a big splash Fri.-Sun., Aug. 28-30. They will be perched at Playland Beach, close to the 35’ water slide. Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, 2610 Amawalk Rd., Katonah will host a Civil War Soldier Experience Sat. & Sun., Aug. 26 & 27 in four sessions for children ages 7-12. Two sessions are offered each day—10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. This outdoor event will be organized and run by Battery “B” First Rhode Island Light Artillery Regiment, an artillery battery that served in the Union Army. Each 2-hour session will consist of educational, fun-filled activities and demonstrations and will end with the firing of an authentic Civil War cannon. Each participant will create and take home his or her own thaumatrope, an optical illusion that was popular in the 19th century as well as a personalized certificate and an official Lasdon patch. Summer Camps & Programs

Registration is open for Hilltop Hanover Farm’s Summer Programming for Children. The farm at 1271 Hanover St., Yorktown Heights offers children the chance to have fun and learn about gardening, sustainable and organic planting practices, taste their harvest and more at the variety of summer programming. Programs include weekly, bi-weekly and daily sessions through August:

Farm Team: Aspiring young farmers will learn how to work outdoors in the fields, weeding, watering, harvesting, and caring for vegetables. For ages six and up.

Tiny Farmers: Meet the animals, play with seeds, discover new plants and taste fresh produce, get creative with flowers and herbs, and explore the forest trails. For ages five and under and their caregivers.

Kids Farm to Table: Learn the relationship between real food and lifelong nutrition and health, and discuss the impacts of sustainable and organic practices, harvest ingredients together, and prepare a seasonal lunch. For ages five and up.

August Camp:  Kids will explore the forest spaces, the growing spaces, meet the animals, play games, get dirty, plant seeds, pull weeds, and enjoy being outdoors in the best time of year! For ages six and up.

Summer Camps at The Picture House in both Pelham and Bronxville will feature Page to Screen for K-8, Aug. 21-28 (Bronxville), 9 a.m.-2 p.m. $500. The films made at camp will premiere at the Student Showcase—a special red carpet event in the fall., where filmmakers get to see their work on the big screen. Friends of Rye Nature Center’s online registration is open for their Summer Program. At this time, they are limiting registration to four weeks per child for day camp and three weeks for Paddle Adventure Camp. Full payment due upon registration.
