Despite the weather getting cold as winter arrives, Blind Brook’s girls’ basketball team is starting their season hotter than ever. After graduating several seniors from last year’s team, a young core with a few new additions is already driving the team into dominance. Led by senior captain Kyra Mak, the Lady Trojans have taken no time to rest as they dive into the beginning of the season.

Blind Brook kicked off their year on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 5, taking on Bronxville for their season opener. The Trojans showed no trouble trying the Broncos, with sophomore star player Kendall Konigsberg debuting for the year with 23 points and captain Mak tacking on another 8. Most importantly, an unbreakable Trojan defense kept Bronco shots far from the net. Ultimately, Blind Brook took down Bronxville with ease, winning by a score of 39-15.

On the heels of a thrilling opener for the Trojans, the team got back on the road on Thursday, Dec. 7, traveling to Edgemont to try their hand at the Panthers. The Trojans’ constant dominance throughout the game proved that their strength so far has been no fluke. Konigsberg once again led the team in scoring with 20 points, joined by 10 from freshman Carly Hodes. Blind Brook ultimately outscored the Panthers by more than double, defeating Edgemont by a decisive 58-24.

Once again on an away court, Blind Brook went up against North Salem on Monday, Dec. 11. The most competitive game to date, there was no moment where victory was clear for one team until the final buzzer. The Trojans were again led in scoring by Konigsberg and Mak, the duo netting 18 and 15 points, respectively, to counter a strong offense by North Salem. In the fashion of the season, however, the Trojans came out on top against North Salem with a tight final score of 48-46.

Now the only team in the league left undefeated, Blind Brook sails into week three with high energy, hopes, and discipline. The Trojans travel to Dobbs Ferry on Tuesday, Dec. 19, tipping off at 4:30 pm. Two days later, for the last game of 2023, Blind Brook will again be on the road, this time against Hastings on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 4:30 p.m. The team will return to the court after winter break on Thursday, Jan. 4, this time at league-rival Briarcliff at 4:30 pm.
