The Blind Brook boys’ varsity basketball team is red hot to start the 2023-24 season. A 3-0 start to the season, plus being champions of Port Chester’s Louis Larizza Jr. Memorial Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 9 was just the way the Trojans had planned to begin the year.
Senior captain Eli Zimmerman’s averaging about 20 points per game through the first three contests was a huge reason for the Trojans’ success, and sophomore captain Noah Brookman’s 17 points per game have boosted Blind Brook to the next level.
The Trojans opened their home schedule on Wednesday, Dec. 13 against The Leffell School. A packed Blind Brook gym waited anxiously for tipoff as their red-hot Trojans looked to remain perfect at the beginning of this season. The Trojans ended up pulling a close one out by a 62-57 score, and Brookman led the way with 19 points, Zimmerman and Bailey Estep each had 16, and senior Ryan Stiler scored 11.
A rest day later and the Trojans were back at it on the road to Woodlands High School for a 6 p.m. tipoff on the night of Friday, Dec. 15. Woodlands is a very good basketball school, and the Trojans knew it would be a challenge to keep their undefeated record alive on the road against a packed Woodlands house for a Friday night game. Despite Stiler putting up 23 points and Zimmerman scoring 19, the Trojans fell by nine, with a final score of 75-66.
Despite a disappointing loss on Friday night, the Trojans head into the holiday break with their heads held high. Zimmerman is staying solid, averaging 18.8 points per game, while Stiler averaged 17 in the last two games. A 4-1 record is very solid and will keep them in a good spot they will return to on Jan. 4, 2024.
The Trojans will tip off at 4:30 p.m. at home on Thursday, Jan. 4 against Briarcliff, then play Rye away on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 5 p.m. and challenge Valhalla on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 6:15 p.m.
