Our hearts are filled with happiness and joy over the birth of our son, Lorenzo Don Prieto-DeAndrea, who was born July 4, 2023, weighing 7lbs. 14oz. and measuring 20¼ in. Parents of Lorenzo are Victoria DeAndrea-Prieto and Christian Prieto of Port Chester. Maternal grandparents are Mary and the late Donald DeAndrea, Jr. of Port Chester. Paternal grandparents are Leticia Roman of Bridgeport, Conn. and Mario Prieto of Clermont, Fla.

Zachary Marks and Isla Parton, both of Rye Brook, graduated this spring from the University of Vermont in Burlington. Zachary received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Isla received a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology.


Jacqueline Castro of Rye Brook, assigned to the 442nd Military Police Company, received a promotion May 19 to the rank of Specialist in recognition of her capability for additional responsibility and leadership. Her promotion was announced by Maj. Gen. Ray Shields, the Adjutant General for the State of New York. Army National Guard promotions are based on a soldier's overall performance, demonstrated leadership abilities, professionalism and future development potential. These promotions recognize the best qualified soldiers for a career in the NY Army National Guard.

The Westchester County Board of Legislators has announced the successful election of former Majority Whip José Alvarado as the new Majority Leader. He becomes the Board’s first Latino Majority Leader in its history. Additionally, Legislator Tyrae Woodson-Samuels has been elected to succeed Alvarado as Majority Whip. These leadership changes reflect the Board's commitment to effective governance and the pursuit of the county's best interests. Legislator Alvarado brings a wealth of legislative experience and a profound understanding of the needs and aspirations of Westchester County residents to his new role as Majority Leader. Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Powers Ct., Westport, Conn., has announced that admission-free, guided tours are now available to the public by reservation from 10:30 a.m. to noon on selected Mondays and Saturdays: July 22, and 24, and Aug. 5 and 7. Go behind the scenes and find out more about the great artists that made the Playhouse their home and get a look at how they bring a script to life. Tour participants will learn how the historic theater’s past has been preserved since its founding in 1931 and how state-of-the-art technology has been introduced. The tour’s path will explore backstage, greenroom, dressing rooms, scene shop, wardrobe room, posters, photos, costumes, and set models. Along the way, Miller will recount historic anecdotes, such as how the Playhouse provided inspiration for the creation of two immortal musicals: “Oklahoma!” and “My Fair Lady.” He’ll take participants back to when the Playhouse opened its doors on June 29, 1931, in what was once a cow barn. The Salvation Army in Port Chester is holding a drive for school supplies in advance of the beginning of the school year for distribution to children in need in Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye. The following items are requested: spiral notebooks, composition books, backpacks (new), Casio FX-55 Plus calculators, dividers, index cards, 3x5”, retractable ballpoint pens, highlighters, construction paper, pencils, colored pencils, washable markers, glue sticks and crayons (box of 24). The items can be left in a box in the driveway at 48 Meadowlark Rd., Rye Brook. Items will be collected thru Aug. 28.


The NYS DMV is undertaking a summer-long underage drinking crackdown on the use of fake IDs to purchase alcohol at concert venues statewide. It will continue thru Sept. 17. 


NYS Parks Commissioner Erik Kullesaid and Friends of Taconic SP have announced the grand opening of the Pomeroy Family Railroad at the Copake Iron Works Historic Site at Taconic State Park, 253 Route 344, Copake Falls. This is a family-friendly attraction.


At Congregation KTI it is a Mitzvah (good deed) moment for all to help feed those in the community who are needy. All food collected in KTI’s ongoing drive is being given to the Salvation Army in Port Chester. Food requested includes cans of tuna, chicken, vegetables, beans and fruit as well as pasta, 10-16-ounce bags/boxes of white rice, snacks, shelf-stable milk, healthy cereals, macaroni and cheese and canned meals like Chef-Boy-r-Dee, chili, etc. The food can be left in bins in Leslie Brandeis Novack's driveway at 48 Meadowlark Rd., Rye Brook.
