The Port Chester Sustainability Committee and Port Chester Beautification Commission are delighted to announce that The Green Awards have been distributed. Winners received a native salvia plant with bright blue/purple flowers that attract pollinators.

The awards went to a wide variety of recipients. Several homeowners received awards for creating beautiful plantings. One award cited “creating a diversity of habitat for pollinators … walking by is always a joy.” Another was hailed as having flags “to celebrate different holidays and a signpost that adds permanent color to the neighborhood.” Others were cheered for putting planters outside of fences, having delightful porch displays and growing fruits and vegetables on their own.

Local businesses also received awards. Varmax (on Putnam Avenue) was cited for being an early adopter of solar panels; they have had them since 2008. Don Lucho (Irving Avenue) won for “adding curb appeal by incorporating colorful plants in window boxes & planters and adding lighting.”
