Veterans Day is Sat., Nov. 11, but the federal holiday will be observed Fri., Nov. 10. It honors military veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Government offices in the Town of Rye and the villages of Rye Brook and Port Chester will be closed Fri., Nov. 10 as will the Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library, Blind Brook and Port Chester schools and the Rye Brook and Port Chester senior centers. Most banks and the post office will be closed Sat., Nov. 11, and there will be no mail delivery that day. The library will be open Sat., Nov. 11. In Port Chester, Mon.-Wed. garbage & recycling are unchanged; Thurs. collections move to Wed., Fri. collections move to Thurs. There will be no bulk or green waste collection this week. In Rye Brook, Thursday collections move to Wednesday; Friday collections move to Thursday. No bulk or green waste collections this week.

A Veterans Day ceremony will be held Sat., Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, Westchester Avenue and N. Regent St., Port Chester. All local and county officials have been invited to participate.

The Rye Brook F.I.T. (Fitness Initiative Together) Community Walk will take place Sat., Nov. 4, 9-11 a.m. beginning at BMP Ridge Street School, 390 N. Ridge St. Join your neighbors, friends and family. All ages welcome. Free. Sign up at Rye Brook Community Pass.

The Rye Brook Recreation Mini Golf Outing will be held Sat., Nov. 4, 12-4 p.m. at Pine Ridge Park, Latonia Road. Postponed from Oct. 7. Sign up through Community Pass.

The Vatican International Exhibit of Eucharistic Miracles will be held at Parish of St. John Bosco, 16 Washington St., Port Chester, Sat.-Mon., Nov. 4-6. There will be a talk on Blessed Carlo Acutis, the 1st millennial to be beatified, after Masses Sat. & Sun. at Corpus Christi Church, 136 S. Regent St., Port Chester and a Talk on St. Manuel Gonzales Garcia, Bishop of the Abandoned Tabernacle after the daily Mass Mon. 8:30 a.m. & 12 p.m. in English and 7:30 p.m. in Spanish (talk will be in English with a translator). Exhibition hours: Nov. 4, 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m.; Nov. 5, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Nov. 6, 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Free admission; all are welcome.

Bands Together for Vets Tunnel to Tower Fundraiser will be hosted by Joey’s Sports Bar & Grill, 583 Willett Ave., Port Chester, Fri. & Sat., Nov. 10 & 11, 5 p.m.-midnight. Event is in support of veterans and first responders. It will feature two days of live music from 10 talented local bands. Ticket purchase is required—$25 for a 2-day weekend pass. A Pot Nudged Into Oblivion: Music + Sound Art Night will be held Sat., Nov. 4, 7-9 p.m. at MAPSpace, 6 N. Pearl St., Port Chester. Three musical artists will collaborate within the space of their exhibition using a range of instruments, live sound processing, looping devices and other strangely adapted objects. Free. Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, will be observed Nov. 10-15, with the main day considered to be Sun., Nov. 12. It symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. During the festival, the celebrants illuminate their homes, temples and workspaces with oil lamps, candles and lanterns.
