Thanksgiving weekend. Government offices in the Town of Rye and the villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook will be closed Fri., Nov. 24, as will the Port Chester and Rye Brook senior centers and Port Chester and Blind Brook schools.
Port Chester’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place in Liberty Square Thurs., Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. Mayor Luis Marino and the Board of Trustees will light the tree. Music by the Port Chester High School Brass Ensemble and The Port Chester Sound. Free hot chocolate provided by the Salvation Army.
Winter Fest hosted by Rye Brook Recreation will be held Fri., Dec. 1, 6-9 p.m. in Pine Ridge Park, Latonia Road, Rye Brook. A special guest from the North Pole will be in attendance, there will be ice carving demos, a bounce house, train rides, Santa and Elf Magic Show and a Christmas tree and menorah lighting. Food and snacks will be available for purchase.
Clay Art Center, 40 Beech St., Port Chester, is holding its annual Clay Holiday Market in the gallery and online thru Dec. 23. Shoppers can enjoy browsing for ceramic gifts, ornaments, cultural items, contemporary tableware and sculptures. Shop local and give handmade this season! The annual event celebrates the hard work and creativity of regional and nationally recognized artists, current and past Artists-in-Residence, emerging artists and CAC artists. A book reading & signing will be held at KTI, 575 King St., Port Chester, Wed., Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Join author Fern Pessin, author of a series of practical guides for caregivers, for wine & cheese and a celebration of her new book, “When Can We Talk?: A Guidebook for Caregivers Holding Discussion Around Difficult Topics.” She will discuss safe, non-threatening ways to bring up sensitive topics such as ceasing driving, moving, bringing in help and financial and legal matters—all with the goal of collaboration vs. confrontation.
