Under fair skies, the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning attracted just over 350 participants and raised $8,000 for the Tamarack Tower Foundation which provides scholarships to Port Chester High School graduates, grants to teachers and other monetary benefits to the Port Chester public schools.

Mini Turkey Trots at each of the four elementary schools in advance of Thanksgiving took in another $3,000, bringing the total benefit to the schools to just over $11,000.

The mini races were run by physical education teachers Jeanine Maolini, John Cafaldo, Jamie Florindi and Danny Alvarado.

There were many student volunteers and adult volunteers who donated prize items and worked the busy registration table. Liz Rotfeld of Port Chester chaired the event for the third year.

The Turkey Trot’s major sponsor was Arctic Mechanical which has been supporting the 3.5K race and family fun run for many years. Neri’s Bakery donated cookies.

The top four finishers in the race were, from left, Kayleigh Curran of Rye Brook, a Blind Brook High School sophomore who was the second place female; Katie Clayton of Sleepy Hollow, the first place female, a PhD student at Stanford University; Kevin Guaman of Port Chester, the second place male, a freshman at Central Connecticut State University; and Kornel Smith of Briarcliff Manor, the first place male, a freshman at the University of Buffalo.
