The Blind Brook boys’ varsity soccer team had lots of work to do following their homecoming blowout win on Saturday night, Sept. 30. They hosted Woodlands High School on Monday, Oct. 2 and got to work right away.

It was clear from kickoff that Blind Brook was the better team. About two minutes into the game, Nico Palacios set the tone with a goal into the bottom right corner and began what would be a very long game for Woodlands. The Trojans did not allow Woodlands to enter their half with the ball and dominated the offensive zone all game. By halftime, the Trojans were dominating to the point where starting goalie junior Luka Cuk was taken out for an opportunity on the field, and junior backup keeper CJ Stumpf took control, letting in zero goals and completing the shutout for the boys in blue.

The Trojans finished the game off with an 8-0 win, with two goals from Palacios, two goals from junior Danny Wilk, one goal from senior Eli Zimmerman, and one goal apiece from juniors Jack Gold, Gavin Zislis and Cameron Scott.

Following the very successful day, the boys walked upstairs to support the girls’ varsity soccer homecoming game, which ended in a 0-0 tie after overtime was not able to settle it. The girls fought long and hard and put a great performance on display for the packed Blind Brook crowd, wearing red, white and blue.

The following day, the boys traveled to Briarcliff High School for a rematch, hoping to redeem themselves after a loss to the Bears earlier in the season. Briarcliff has consistently dominated the section the last few years and is always one of the more challenging matchups for the Trojans. After a hard-fought battle, the Trojans were defeated in a 1-0 heartbreaker.

However, they turned the page and shifted their attention to their home game on Thursday, Oct. 5 against Valhalla, whom they defeated 3-2 under the lights in front of a Valhalla crowd earlier this season.

Unfortunately, the two goals scored by the Trojans were not enough to hold the Vikings off on their home turf. Valhalla ran away with the game by a 4-2 score.

Despite two tough losses in the past week, Blind Brook is still among the top teams in the section with an 8-4 record. They traveled to Pleasantville on Monday, Oct. 9 followed by another away game at Rye Neck after press time on Wednesday, Oct. 11 before hosting Westlake on Friday, Oct. 13 at 4:30 p.m. for their final game of the regular season.
