As the regular season concluded, Blind Brook’s girls’ soccer team stayed busy up until the very end. The last two weeks were jampacked with games due to unplayable weather early in the season, and the Trojans saw themselves come together in several hard-fought matchups. The team ended the regular season with a 6-5-2 winning record.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, the Trojans took on Westlake for the second time this season—for the first time at home—looking for the season sweep against the Wildcats. In an intense, incredibly tight game, senior Veronica Pallotta netted the ball, a naturally uncommon occurrence from the star center back. After a series of matches leading the Trojan defense and making it impenetrable, Pallotta was nominated as a Lohud Player of the Week as recognition. Pallotta’s lone goal was enough to secure the win for the Trojans, sneaking past Westlake 1-0.

On the heels of the thrilling Westlake victory, the Trojans traveled to take on Rye Neck on Tuesday, Oct. 10 to avenge their heartbreaking Sept. 26 2-1 loss. Goals by freshman Lola Gonzalez and sophomore Makayla Dutra kept the game at an even 2-2 through regulation, sending the teams into two rounds of overtime—a situation they know all too well. As the clock went under a minute left in the second overtime, some teams might have decided to throw in the towel and accept a draw. However, Blind Brook powered through and won the game 3-2 on a walk-off goal by freshman Skylar Sommers.

After a long sequence of intense games—some wins and some losses—the Trojans traveled to Yonkers on Friday, Oct. 13 to try their hand at Yonkers Montessori Academy. All sides of the team got to show off, with the defense staying unbeatable and the offense constantly reaching the back of the net. The Trojans were led by a hat trick of three goals by Lola Gonzalez, along with goals by seniors Alex Beatty and Jessie Kron, junior Jillian Shohet, and freshmen Daniela Dluzhevskiy and Skylar Sommers. Ultimately, the Trojans earned an easy win against YMA, ending with a score of 8-0.

Just two days after the mounting win over YMA, on Sunday, Oct. 15, Blind Brook came back home for a match against Valhalla. Once again, the Trojan defense held down an incredibly tight fort, only allowing one goal with the help of interim goalie Kendall Konigsberg—subbing for injured star keeper Anna Vnenchak. Additionally, the offense took care of its own business, with junior Alex Maniscalco starting the scoring and Alex Beatty finishing two of her own goals. The Trojans successfully took down the Vikings, winning with a score of 3-1.

After a long season, Blind Brook took on Pleasantville away on Monday, Oct. 16 for the last regular season game. A rubber match from the hard-fought scoreless draw on the Trojans’ Homecoming, with both teams determined to end it on a high note, the game was highlighted by its strong game play from each side. Gonzalez once again netted a goal for the Trojans, leading the scoring against a powerhouse Pleasantville defense. Unfortunately, Blind Brook ended the regular season with a 3-1 loss.

The Trojans, seeded fifth in the postseason bracket, are rewarded with a bye for the first round of the playoffs. They will then begin in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with an away matchup against the fourth-seeded Bronxville at 3 p.m. With a win, they would move on to the semifinals on Thursday, Oct. 26, then ultimately the finals on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. at Nyack High School.
